Step 5: Instructional units

Instructional units tie the course content, assessments, and instructional methods to the competencies that were identified in Step 4. Adding an instructional unit is a two step process: 1) Defining high level information about the unit; 2) Relating the unit to program level competencies:

To add an instructional unit

  1. Click the Add instructional unit hyperlink at the top of the Step 5 screen. The following form will appear:

  1. Click the Save and define unit competencies button to define the competency information related this instructional unit. You will now see the following screen:

Note: the Competencies > Demo describes the instructional unit you are defining.

  1. Click the next to the competency you want to define for the instructional unit. The following form will appear:

  1. Click the Submit button to add the competency information. Once all the competency information has been added, click Competency information complete.

Repeat steps 1 through 4 for each instructional method in the course.

Completing this step

When at least one instructional unit has been defined, the will appear and you will be able to advance to the next step.

This step is completed once the is used to advance to the next step in the program. The course's status on the main page will now be set to step 5.
